Here at IND Legacy, we are food lovers, I would even go so far as to say we are true foodies. We are from the Atlanta area, and when we started traveling to Chattanooga, one of the many things we fell in love with was the culinary scene. This city has a wide range of delicious restaurants, from casual whole-in-the-wall joints to innovative vegan cuisine to BBQ. Chattanooga has something to satisfy even the pickiest of eaters. Here are the top 10 family-friendly places to eat based on our experience.
1. Pizza Bros
Pizza Bros -This is an IND Legacy family favorite. Pizza Bros is a local pizzeria owned by brothers Cal & Jack bring New York style pizza to Nooga! They offer a variety of delicious pizzas, salads, and subs. We have only gotten the pizza and typically get whatever daily special they’re dishing up. If the pizza is any indication I’m sure the other options will be fire! It’s a casual atmosphere and the staff is friendly. Not to mention one of their two locations is right across the street from Northshore Walkabout.

2. Edley’s BBQ
Edleys BBQ – Slow-smoked meats, sides, sauces, and a huge outdoor patio make for a great family dinner. We enjoy the Smoker Sampler that feeds 3 to 4 people, you get a little of everything and it’s more friendly on the wallet than individual meals. Try out the brisket, baked beans, and mac & cheese. Also, the cornbread is fantastic.

3. Sluggo’s North
Sluggo’s North – Chattanooga has a variety of vegan restaurants and Sluggos is one the best. While we are not a vegan family, we truly enjoy Sluggos. The sweet potato enchiladas are fabulous and my hubby swears they put magic dust in the chili. He is a true carnivore and adores their chili. To top it all off it’s across the street from Nothshore Walkabout. The restaurant is small and intimate with a fabulous staff that makes you feel at home.

4. Cherry Street Brewing
Cherry Street Brewing – Yes it’s a brewery and yes it’s kid friendly. Desmond is a huge craft beer fan and Cherry Street is at the top of his list. Desmond is able to indulge in the craft beer scene and the family can get a great meal and play a board game while we are at it. Take in some fresh air on their patio and you eat out with the family dog. If you are in town during the week kids eat free on Thursdays. Our daughter likes the burgers and I suggest the bourbon brown sugar glazed pork belly.

5. Champy’s World Famous Chicken
Champy’s World Famous Chicken – Champys is a fun and casual family restaurant that fires up some amazing chicken. We are fried chicken snobs in our house and Champy’s is one of the few restaurants we have tried that can live up to Grandma’s cooking. Their chicken has the right amount of crisp with a juicy inside. We are not big fans of their sides, but the chicken makes up for it. Not to mention the decor is eclectic and fun. Desmond got a kick out of the fact they serve 40s and bought his own 40 koozie.

6. Myan Kitchen
Myan Kitchen – While Myan Kitchen may not look like a kid friendly resultant, I assure you it is. In fact, this is our kid’s go-to. Our 18-year-old wants to eat here whenever he is in town with us and our daughter could eat buckets of the chorizo and cheese dip. The family favorite is the Pollo en Pepian, which is made just like the owner’s grandmother made it. This place is not to be missed, kid or not kids.

7. Real Good Kitchen
Real Good Smokehouse – In case you can’t tell we like BBQ, and Real Good is fantastic! They are newer to the restaurant scene in Chattanooga opening in May 2022. The brisket melts in your mouth and they are also cooking up some of the best fires you have ever had. The fries are cooked in beef Tallow! Dip those fries in their homemade barbeque sauce and or top them topped with brisket chili and cheese. Next on our list to try is The Rich Girls sandwich which has smoked shrimp.

8. Brewhaus
Brewhaus – If you like German food Brehaus is the place for you. Their menu features dishes like sausages, schnitzel, and freshly made pretzels. It’s a hole-in-the-wall joint with limited indoor seating and outdoor space, with bar height stools, that overlooks the Tennessee river. We enjoy the Schnitzel and the “Fine Schwein Platter”, which is a fancy way of saying assorted sausages and it’s delicious.

9. Cashew
Cashew, where vegan meets gluten-free in this popular local spot. I could eat their blondie every day and never grow tired of it. Pair that with their slightly spicy chai tea latte and I’m in heaven. My daughter, who is not vegan, likes their burger and in fact requests it. Their jackfruit tacos are my go-to when I’m gorging their gluten-free doughnuts. I think the staff knows me by name and I don’t even live in Chattanooga.

10. Agave & Rye
Agave & Rye – Last, but certainly not least is one of my favorite taco places… ever. Agave & Rye is not your traditional taco joint. The restaurant is like an art gallery and turns up the energy with music from my day (I’m not telling you how old I am). At first glance, people may question if this joint is family-friendly, but in my book it is and my 11-year-old agrees. Not to mention I see kids of all ages when I go. We always eat from the “Epic Tacos” portion of the menu. These tacos are large and in charge and served with two tortillas to contain all the goodness. I always get The Bang Bang, which is vegetarian, and The Crown Jewel which has lobster and Mac & Cheese. Did I mention my 11-year-old’s favorite if The Crown Jewel? If you do stop by, not one to two epic tacos is more than enough for one person so I suggest sharing.

This list is just a few of our personal favorites in the area. As you can tell Chattanooga offers some amazing culinary experiences during our stay, many a hop, skip, or jump away from Northshore Walkabout. So grab your family, pack your appetite, and get ready to indulge in some of the best food around. Happy eating!
